Things to Know
Single Mode VS Multimode Fibre
Single Mode fibers have a small glass core, typically around 9µm. Single Mode fibers are used for high speed data transmission over long distances. They are less susceptible to attenuation than multimode fibers.
Multimode fibers have large cores, usually either 50µm or 62.5µm. They are able to carry more data than single mode fibers though they are best for shorter distances because of their higher attenuation levels.
Cat6 advantages over Cat5e data cabling
CAT6 cable was introduced to meet the specific needs of "Gigabit Ethernet". This new standard is designed to transmit data up to 1000 Mbits per second. Cat5e was designed to do only 100 Mbits per second. A whole generation of new networking components has been introduced for the purpose of having a Gigabit network. Network Interface Cards, Routers, Switches, Patch panels, Hubs, and many other components have been developed in order to create a network that can be "certified" as a full gigabit network.
